THE PERSON AT THE KEYBOARD
Hi, I'm Paul.
I'm Paul Demers, a software engineer and product builder. My work spans cloud platforms, APIs, mobile applications, AI systems, and software for old consoles. I like taking an idea through the whole process: figuring out what it needs to do, building it, and learning from what happens when people use it.
A bit of background
I studied Game Development & Simulation Programming at the New England Institute of Technology. My early work included inventory and scanning applications at Tools Plus, followed by training simulation software at VRSim.
At Gerber Technology, now part of Lectra, I've worked on bringing established desktop software to the cloud, shared platform services, and enterprise AI applications. In between my two stretches at Gerber, I worked at TechMates Group on cloud environments and delivery pipelines. That mix has kept me close to both the software people use and the systems that support it.
Alongside that work, I run P2.Dev and serve as CTO at Montjoy. Those projects have taken me through web and mobile products, places APIs, language games, and education software, working with partners and small development teams to get ideas into people's hands.
At the workbench
Outside that product work, I spend a lot of time exploring emulators, homebrew, and development tools. Older hardware makes for interesting problems: limited memory, unfamiliar graphics hardware, and assumptions that stop holding up when you move away from a modern PC. My GitHub also includes AI tooling such as Ender and emulators for systems including the Game Boy Advance and Sega Genesis.
The first project on this site is XWN, which gets Windows 2000 running directly on original Xbox hardware. It's one part of a wider interest in understanding how these machines work and finding new things to do with them.
demers.sh is where I collect the projects and the stories behind them: what I tried, what worked, what failed, and what I learned. You can browse the projects, watch the demos on YouTube, follow along on X, or subscribe through RSS.
